The Trinamool Congress started a massive protest at the BJP 's main election office in Hastings before BJP leaders including Suvendu Adhikari, reached the spot. However, the BJP also started protesting. Protests and counter-protests between the two sides erupted in the area on Saturday (December 26) afternoon.

Hastings police could not control the situation despite trying a lot of times. The two parties clashed with each other and created a stir in the area. After a while, a large police force came and brought the situation under control.

The incident started when Trinamool MP Sunil Mandal, who had just joined the BJP, was on his way to the office. From morning, the TMC protest was going on by setting up a stage near the BJP office. As Sunil's car approached the BJP office, some TMC activists stopped his car. They surrounded Sunil's car and started protesting.

The police came and tried to move the demonstrators, but could not due to less police force. By the time, BJP workers and supporters also reached the spot. Later, an additional police force was brought and Sunil's car was cordoned off.

A total of 43 people, including Suvendu Adhikari, are expected to attend Saturday's meeting. MP Arjun Singh and Locket Chatterjee came to the office. Shortly before their arrival, Kailash Vijayavargiya and Dilip Ghosh entered the office. Arjun Singh and Locket Chatterjee condemned the 'police inaction'.

According to them, the whole incident happened with the help of the police. The Trinamool had no plan for the protest meeting. The meeting was held because the BJP organized a meeting.

Trinamool supporters present at the scene said they were protesting against new agricultural laws and rising prices of essential commodities. The TMC leaders however could not give any answer as to why the meeting was held near the BJP office.

Veteran Trinamool MP Saugat Roy said, "It is a spontaneous protest of the people of the area. Sunil has won the team ticket twice. He has So the TMC activists and supporters of the party stopped his car and staged a spontaneous protest. betrayed the team. Nothing was planned.”

“Police were not 'inactive' at all. They have done their duty properly,” he added.

Now it remains to be seen whether the Trinamool will protest again when Suvendu Adhikari arrives at the BJP office.
