TIME's 'World's 100 greatest places of 2021' list includes India's Goa & Jaipur

News magazine and website TIME recently released their annual list of the 'World's 100 greatest places of 2021'. This list revealed the most unique and extraordinary destinations that one can visit this year. This list, developed by TIME's contributors and correspondents, includes countries, regions, cities and small towns from Australia to Antarctica.

It features destinations from the United States, including Montana's Big Sky, Indianapolis, California's Napa Valley, Santa Fe, Seattle and more. Canadian destinations featured in the list include the country's capital in Jasper, Alberta and Winnipeg. 

Speaking about Europe, this list has more than one-eighth of the places, includes the following areas: 

  • Potugal's Arouca and Coimbra
  • Athens
  • Bath, England; 
  • Berlin
  • Turkey's Bodrum
  • Caceres, Spain
  • Cannes, France
  • Edinburgh
  • the Faroe Islands
  • Gothenburg in Sweden
  • London's Design District
  • Helsinki; 
  • Ljubljana, Slovenia
  • Loire Valley, France
  • Madrid
  • Nuuk, Greenland
  • Odense, Denmark
  • Oslo; 
  • Paris; 
  • Reykjavik, Iceland
  • Santiago de Compostela, Spain
  • Sicily, Tuscany and Venice, Italy
  • Southern Carpathian Mountains in Romania
  • Estonia
  • Zurich

In Asia, TIME recommended the following place: 

  • Bangkok
  • Malaysia's Desaru Coast
  • Dubai
  • South Korea's Gyeongju
  • Hanoi
  • Ho Chi Minh City and Phu Quoc
  • Hokkaido
  • India's Jaipur and North Goa, India
  • Thailand's Khao Yai National Park
  • Lake Khovsgol, Mongolia
  • the Maldives
  • Lijiang in China
  • Israel's Negev Desert
  • Osaka, Japan
  • Siargao, Philippines
  • Siem Reap, Cambodia
  • Singapore
  • Tokyo and Wadi Dana,
  • Jordan

Meanwhile, Caribbean places include Grenada and Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands, Belize, Costa Rica, Christchurch and New Zealand.

As per the list, the top African destinations include Ghana, Benguerra Island and Chimanimani National Park in Mozambique; Cairo; Rwanda's Lake Kivu; Morocco, among other favourites.

Explaining how the list was compiled, TIME said that this year's list is a tribute to the business and people, who, in tough times, figured unique ways to adapt and grow themselves. The magazine had solicited nominations that offer new and exciting experiences. The list had all extraordinary places, from the Portuguese town of Arouca (Now home to the world's longest pedestrian bridge) to the continent of Antarctica. The sites highlight the creativity revitalization and reopening of the tourist destinations.
