Senior Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will start campaigning in West Bengal next month.

Jitin Prasada, the newly appointed Congress in-charge of West Bengal, said that the party would put up a tough fight with the CPI(M)-led Left Front against the TMC and the BJP in the upcoming assembly polls.

Jitin Prasada and Congress president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury held meetings with the state leadership and took stock of the party’s organisation in the state.

The Congress leader said that the BJP has no strong leader in West Bengal. Therefore, they are appointing central leaders to fill the gap.

During the meeting with Jitin Prasada, the entire state Congress leadership supported alliance with the Left and wanted the AICC to give the go-ahead for the seat-sharing talks with the CPI(M) for the next assembly polls.

A senior Congress leader said, “The Left-Congress alliance in Bengal will defeat the TMC and BJP. The seat- sharing should be sealed as early as possible.”

Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and Jitin Prasada addressed a rally in Nagerbazar area of North 24 Parganas district on Thursday (December 17) and said that they will defeat the Mamata Banerjee government in the next assembly polls.

Elections to the 294-member West Bengal assembly are due in April-May next year.
