Police Commissioner who arrested BJP workers for "Goli Maro" slogans resigns

Humayun Kabir, an Inspector General-rank officer and the police commissioner of Chandannagar resigned on Friday (January 29) just days after he ordered the arrest of three BJP workers for "Goli Maro" slogans raised at a roadshow last week.

The Bengal government has changed police superintendents in several districts before the polls. The police superintendents of Birbhum and Purulia have already been transferred. In this situation, the commissioner of Chandannagar police Commissionerate was transferred. 

Humayun Kabir, an Inspector General-rank officer and the police commissioner of Chandannagar resigned on Friday (January 29) just days after he ordered the arrest of three BJP workers for "Goli Maro" slogans raised at a roadshow last week.

The police commissioner resigned from his post citing "personal reasons". Incidentally, Humayun Kabir got promoted to inspector-general of police last month.

Gaurav Sharma, Joint Commissioner of Kolkata Police will now replace Humayun Kabir and will take up charge CP of Chandannagar from February 1.

The police superintendents of Purulia and Birbhum were transferred last week. Selva Morgan was the p olice superintendent of Purulia. Biswajit Mahato took charge in his place.

Selvamurgan has been transferred to CID. Biswajit Mahato was earlier the DC of West Zone of Asansol-Durgapur Police Commissionerate.
