Mysuru: District minister ST Somashekar has said that everyone taking part in the Jamboo Savari procession will be tested for COVID-19 five days ahead of the event.

Pointing out that those attending the procession should possess a COVID -19 negative report, Somashekar said that all necessary precautionary and safety measures will be taken during the event.

Mentioning that four Dasara preparatory meetings have been held so far, he said that the five Dasara elephants will be welcomed at the Palace on October 2.

Reacting to a query on the arrangements for Dasara procession, the minister said he, along with fellow Minister CT Ravi and MLA SA Ramdas, have appealed to the chief secretary of the State to allow participation of 2,000 people for Dasara procession.

1,000 people will be allowed for Dasara cultural programmes and 250 people for Dasara inauguration atop Chamundi Hill.

The Chief Secretary is expected to respond to the plea in a couple of days after going through the Centre’s guidelines on the issue.

ST Somashekar added that the next Dasara meeting will take place on October 2.
