Asking for leave from work is often a difficult task. But one man in Chhattisgarh’s Bilaspur district had no qualms about it. Pankaj Raj Gound, a TA-2 employee in the railways penned a matter-of-fact letter to his boss seeking one week’s leave.

Gound said he wanted the time off so that he could fill his stomach with chicken. Why? Because he wouldn’t be able to touch meat once the Shravan month begins.

This period, which usually falls during monsoon, requires Hindus to stay away from any kind of meat. Gound argued that this religious tradition would make him weak while carrying out his job.

His leave letter, which has since gone viral on the internet, includes his earnest request. Gound, who works as a porter in the station, said he wants to accumulate enough strength by eating chicken for one whole week and he promises to do so.

In the letter, he has asked, with ‘folded hands,’ that he given time off from June 20-27. No word yet on whether or not he has been given leave on these health grounds.
