Mahant Narendra Giri was found dead at his Baghambari Math residence in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj.
Mahant Narendra Giri, chief of the Akhil Bharatiya Akhada Parishad, was found dead on Monday at his Baghambari Math residence in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj.
According to police sources, the cause of death is still not clear.
According to media reports, forensic teams are at the spot investigating the matter.
Senior officials are also present at the Baghambari Math.
Media reports also claimed that a five-page suicide note was recovered from the Mahant's residence. However, claims about the suicide note are yet to be authenticated.
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath condoled the passing away of the religious leader and said that his demise was an irreparable loss for the spiritual world.
In his condolence message, former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav too termed the religious leader's demise as an irreparable loss.
Earlier this year in April, Mahant Giri had undergone treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Rishikesh after testing positive for Covid-19. He was subsequently discharged.
