First tribal girl from Kerala to crack civil service bags assistant collector’s post in Kozhikode

Sreedhanya, a tribal girl, who hails from Wayanad district in Kerala bagged the 410th rank in the UPSC exam. Now she is set to join as assistant collector (on training) in Kozhikode.

Wayanad: 26-year-old Sreedhanya Suresh, who became the first person from a tribal community in Kerala to crack the civil services exam in 2018, is set to join as assistant collector (on training) in Kozhikode.

Sreedhanya belongs to the Kurichiya community.  She secured the 410th rank.

As Kerala achieved global attention in the way it's fighting the coronavirus pandemic, Sreedhanya couldn't ask for a better time to join the service.  Sreedhanya, who is under training in Mussoorie, however, has to undergo two weeks quarantine before joining as assistant collector in Kozhikode, officials said.

When she cracked the UPSC exam, she told the media that she comes from the most backward tribe in the state and said that there were no tribal IAS officers from Wayanad. She also hoped that her selection would inspire and motivate future generations.
