Bengaluru was shamed on 31st night when a group of unruly mob started groping and molesting women in the presence of the Police. This incident yet again proved that none of the Indian cities are safe for women, which is pretty much scary a thought.

When the ministers are trying to give this incident a communal twist, in another part of the country, Olympian Krishna Poonia stepped in and took on three bullies who were harassing teen sisters.

Poonia was waiting inside her car while crossing through a congested railway crossing in Rajasthan’s Churu district. She spotted three bullies on a bike harassing two sisters. She did not waste any time and got down from her car and chased the bike.

The men on the bike did not have any other option but to throttle and run away from the situation. But these men did not realise they would end up dealing with Poonia, who was known for throwing 1kg discus more than 60m in international competitions.

The 39-year-old former athlete ran behind the bullies and eventually caught hold of one of them. She immediately called up the police and handed over the miscreant. She also took the two sisters to the police station and officially lodged a complaint.

It is indeed incredible to see the 2010 Commonwealth Games gold medallist to pull this off and save two girls from getting harassed. It could have gotten worse if Poonia had not stepped in and chased them down.

So is it the duty of the women to save them while men of such kinds will continue to repeat the same and run lose? When will the rowdies realise that they should start respecting women as they too have a mother and may be a sister at home and someday, God forbid, something similar may happen to them as well?

To relate this to the Bengaluru 31st night incident, the policemen, who were bloody well present at the location could not get hold of the molesters. They are still on the run and it has been three days. Is it still not time to wake up and severely punish these offenders?
