Farmers have in the last few days intensified their protests against the farm laws despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi assurances that his government's reforms were aimed at empowering them.

But among those who have been appearing before the media claiming as representatives of farmers, are few who have nothing to do with farming. Let's take a look at some of them.

Darshan Pal
The state president of Krantikari Kisan Union, Punjab, is affiliated to the CPI-Maoist. He is a resident of Patiala, and is a retired doctor from the Punjab state health department. He is also the state convenor of AIKSCC. 

Hannan Mollah
A member of Kulhind Kisan Sangarsh Talmel Committee, Habbab Mollah is affiliated to CPI-M. He is a resident of Howrah, West Bengal and an ex-MP from Uluberia. He was Member of Parliament from 1980 to 2009.  He was also the general secretary of DYFI from 1980 to 1991. 

Akhshay Kumar
A member of Nav Nirman Vikas Sangathan (NNVS), Akhshay Kumar is a social activist and a close associate of Anna Hazare and Medha Patkar. He is a resident of Jagatsinghpur, Odisha. He has been a part of earlier social movements like Narmada Bachao Andolan and Azadi Bachao Andolan.  

Kavita Kuruganti
A member of the AIKSCC, Kavita Kuruganti is a social activist who runs two NGOs namely Mahila Kisan Adhikar Manch (MAKAAM) and Alliance for Sustainable and Holistic Agriculture (ASHA).

Yogendra Yadav
Yogendra Yadav is the convenor of Swaraj India. He is a social worker and noted psephologist. Though he is not a part of farmer delegation, holding talks with government representatives, Yogendra is actively associated with farmers’ protest and is an active member of Sanyukt Kisan Morcha. 

Jagmohan Singh Patiala
Jagmohan Singh Patiala is a member of BKU (Dakaunda) from Patiala and is a trained acupuncturist. Jagmohan had also worked in the co-operative department of Punjab Government.

Kiranjeet Sekho
Kiranjeet Sekho is a member of Kulhind Kisan Federation and is linked to the CPI-M. He is a lawyer by profession.

Prem Singh Bnangu
Prem Singh Bnangu, who belongs to the Kulhind Kisan Federation, is a lawyer by profession.
