Even as the tussle continues within the Punjab unit of the Congress party, its Chief Minister, Charanjit Singh Channi now finds himself at the centre of yet another controversy.

Trouble erupted when the Punjab Government's Directorate of Public Relations released photos that showed Rhythmjit Singh, son of Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, seated at an official meeting convened to discuss the law and order situation.

The review meeting, chaired by the chief minister, was attended by state Director General of Police Iqbal Preet Singh Sahota and other officials of the state.

Photos that showed Rhythmjit Singh attending the meeting have now gone viral.

The Bharatiya Janata Party has slammed the chief minister for allowing his son to be part of the meeting called to discuss the law and order situation in the border state.

Slamming the Congress government for the incident, Punjab BJP president Ashwani Sharma termed it as unprecedented and unethical.

The Punjab government, meanwhile, sought to play down the incident with the Hussan Lal, the principal secretary to the chief minister, who said that the chief minister's son did not interfere in the meeting.

However, the BJP maintained that Channi, who is a three-time MLA, should be aware of the credibility and dignity of the Constitution.

Senior bureaucrats also came under fire from the BJP for allowing the Chief Minister son to remain seated in the official meeting.

Chief Minister Channi has been having a torrid time since he took over reigns from Captain Amarinder Singh. He was confronted by Navjot Singh Sidhu over the appointment of certain ministers and officials, including DGP Shaota and the state advocate general.

Channi has also made headlines over his austerity attempts wherein he publically stressed the fact that he did not need the kind of security cover that is currently being provided to him. The subject, reportedly, came up for discussion in the meeting that is now shrouded in controversy.
