CM Pushkar Singh Dhami celebrated Raksha Bandhan with women in Dehradun and highlighted women’s empowerment, jobs and self-help groups. He also announced free Uttarakhand Roadways travel for women on August 28 and 29.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami celebrated the Raksha Bandhan day with the women in two programmes held at Dehradun on Sunday. First, he was present at the Raksha Bandhan programme held at Chaudhary Farms and then went to another programme held at Survey Stadium, Hathibarkala. Many women had tied rakhi to the chief minister and wished him good health and longevity.
He appreciated the affection and good wishes of the women and sent greetings to all mothers and sisters in the state.
CM Dhami Says Love Of Women Is His Biggest Strength
While addressing the gatherings, he said being amidst the women gave him a feeling of coming home to his brothers and sisters on the Raksha Bandhan day. He said that this festival is symbolic of love, faith, devotion, and lifelong bonding between brothers and sisters.
He also emphasized that strong bonds come through responsibilities and caring for each other rather than rights alone.
Empowerment of Women Essential For The Development of Uttarakhand
He mentioned the contribution of the women in the development of their family, community, and the state. He especially congratulated women from the hill areas who had turned difficulties into strengths.
He also mentioned initiatives such as self-help groups, Lakhpati Didi scheme, and various other government schemes meant for increasing opportunities of women in terms of employment, entrepreneurship, and self-reliance.
5 Lakh Plus Women Linked With Self-Help Groups
As per the statement made by the Chief Minister, more than 5 lakh women of Uttarakhand have been linked with 70,000-plus self-help groups. There are more than 7,000 village organizations and more than 500 cluster organizations in Uttarakhand.
Further, he mentioned that more than 3 lakh women have been identified as Lakhpati Didis, who help increase their household income and also create new models of women economic activities.
30 Percent Horizontal Reservation of Women in Government Jobs
The Chief Minister also highlighted the 30 percent horizontal reservation of women in government services. He also mentioned that one of the most important steps is the uniform civil code for safeguarding the rights of women.
Dhami further stated that more than 34,000 youths have been recruited in government jobs under his tenure of five years.
Free Roadways Travel for Women on August 28 and 29
In celebration of Raksha Bandhan, Dhami has made it free for women to travel in Uttarakhand Roadways buses on August 28 and 29. This will help women travel and meet their parents and family members during the occasion.
Dhami has assured the ladies that they can visit his office with their worries and the government will strive to create a Uttarakhand wherein daughters are secure, women are independent, and mothers have dignity.
