Centre enhances financial support to open Ayush colleges to Rs 70 crore

In a move aimed to popularise traditional Indian medicine systems, the central government has increased the financial support to Rs 70 crore to ensure the setting up of more Ayush colleges across the country.

Earlier, state governments had been provided financial support to the tune of Rs 9 crore under the National Ayush Mission to set up Ayush colleges.

Addressing a conference in Guwahati, Ayush minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that states may identify the land and manpower for this purpose and avail this opportunity as per the guidelines of the National Ayush Mission.

The minister said that career opportunities in the Ayush sector have increased dramatically in recent years. 

He said that the government's concerted efforts had restored faith in the Ayush medicine systems among communities worldwide. 

Sonowal further said that Ayush had great potential to cater to a large number of healthcare needs of people and contribute to the growth and development of this country.

To enhance the coverage of traditional Indian medicine systems in the northeast, the Ayush ministry has in principle given approval for upgrading the Government Ayurvedic College at Jalukbari in Assam as the Centre of Excellence with the financial support of Rs 10 crore.
