A tragic incident took place in Odisha. A pick-up van carrying around 30 people overturned in Koraput district on Sunday (January 31). At least 10 people lost their lives in the accident and 15 others were severely injured.

The accident took place near Murtahandi under Kotpad police station limits when a group of around 30 people was travelling to the Kulta village in Chhattisgarh from Sindhiguda village in Odisha.

District Magistrate Madhusudan Mishra said, “At least 10 people died in the incident and 13 have been seriously injured. A pickup van overturned in Kotpad in Koraput district. All passengers were from the Kulta village in Chhattisgarh and were returning from Sindhiguda village. The drunken driver fled from the spot.”

“Seven injured persons have been shifted to the Lakshman Nayak Medical College, Koraput. Two are admitted to Kotpad Community Health Center,” he added.

Sub Collector Jaypore Hemakanta Saya said, "Four other injured persons have been admitted to Jagdalpur Hospital."

The bodies of the victims have been sent to the Kotpad Community Health Center. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the tragic death of 10 people in the road accident.
