Congress' Punjab crisis: CM Amarinder wants 'Hindu' to lead state Congress unit, Manish Tewari joins chorus

A day after Congress party decided to make Navjot Sidhu as Punjab Congress Committee chief to ease the tension between warring CM Capt Amarinder Singh and Navjot Singh Sidhu, tension still prevails as CM pushed 'Hindu' name for the top post, thereby an attempt to scuttle Sidhu's efforts to get the top post.

Congress Punjab crisis: CM Amarinder wants 'Hindu' to lead state Congress unit, Manish Tewari joins chorus-ycb

It seems the idea of handing over the baton to Navjot Singh Sidhu as the next Punjab Congress president has not gone down well with CM Captain Amarinder Singh as he pitched a non-Sikh and non-Jat's name and wants a 'Hindu' to strike a 'balance'.

He allegedly is planning to push Manish Tewari's name for the post as both share a good equation.

Singh got support in Tewari, the central Congress leader also reciprocated openly with his tweet which has gone viral.

In his tweet, Tewari said, 'Demographics of Punjab' and shared the same with a pie-chart on his Twitter handle. According to Tewari, 57.75% are Sikhs, 38.49% are  Hindus, 31.94% comprising Dalits. And ended by saying, Punjab is both secular as well as progressive. A message very clearly directed towards Navjot Sidhu, a Jatt Sikh and Harish Rawat who backed his candidacy as PCC chief.

Interestingly, Tewari is also one among the dissenting leaders from the G-23 camp who demanded a complete overhaul of the Congress and its working style.

In the late-night development on Thursday after Rawat announced Siddu as the next PCC chief, Siddu along with three cabinet ministers held a separate meeting while CM Singh held a meeting with MPs and MLA supporting him at his private resort to placate  Sidhu's move.
