Defence Ministry sets up 15-member expert committee to review NCC; MS Dhoni, Anand Mahindra in panel

The committee which will be headed by senior BJP leader and former MP Baijayant Panda, would recommend best practices of similar international youth organisations for inclusion in NCC curriculum.

New Delhi: Aiming to make National Cadets Corps a world-class organisation, the government on Thursday set up a 15-member High Level Expert Committee for a comprehensive review of the NCC to make it more relevant in changed times. 

The committee which will be headed by senior BJP leader and former MP Baijayant Panda, would recommend best practices of similar international youth organisations for inclusion in NCC curriculum.

It will also provide suggestions which can empower NCC cadets to contribute more effectively towards nation building and national developmental efforts in various sectors.

“The committee will propose measures for gainful engagement of its Alumni for betterment of the organisation as a whole and to study and recommend best practices of similar international youth organisations for inclusion in the NCC curriculum,” the defence ministry said.

In the committee, two MPs — Col Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore (Retd) and Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra, Cricketer MS Dhoni, Jamia Millia Islamia Vice Chancellor Najma Akhtar and Principal Economic Advisor in the Ministry of Finance  Sanjeev Sanyal have been appointed as members among others. 

Besides, SNDT Women’s University former VC Vasudha Kamat, National Organizing Secretary of Bhartiya Shikshan Mandal Mukul Kanitkar, Maj. Gen. Alok Raj (Retd), DICCI Chairman Milind Kamble, SIS India Limited MD Rituraj Sinha, Water.org COO Vedika Bhandarkar and Databook CEO Anand Shah were also appointed as members. 

Joint Secretary (Training) in the Department of Defence Mayank Tewari has been appointed as member secretary.

The NCC is the largest uniformed organisation which aims at developing character, discipline, a secular outlook and ideals of selfless service amongst young citizens. 

It also aims to create a pool of organised, trained and motivated youth with leadership qualities in all walks of life.
