New Delhi: Chief of Defence Staff Gen Bipin Rawat and Defence Secretary Ajay Kumar on Thursday performed “puja” for the new defence complexes, which will house over 7000 defence personnel — shifting from hutments of South Block and North Block on the Raisina Hills.

On the occasion several defence and civilian officers were present.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the defence enclaves at Africa Avenue and Kasturba Gandhi Marg in Delhi on September 16.

As part of the Central Vista Project, the two new office complexes at the African Avenue and the Kasturba Gandhi Marg were built at a cost of Rs 775 crore last year.

The MoD-funded project has released 37 acres of land for the Central Vista Development Master Plan, officials said.

The KG Marg complex has three office blocks with a built-up area of 4.51 lakh square feet while the Africa Avenue complex is having four blocks with a built-up area of 5.08 lakh square feet.

The vacated space will be developed as the Prime Minister's new residence and office under the Central Vista Redevelopment project.

Works are also on building new Parliament and is expected to be completed by next year when India will be celebrating its 75 years of Independence.
