The state government of Andhra Pradesh is setting up an international institute of digital technologies (IIDT) in Tirupati, to train engineers and entrepreneurs with next generation technology skills.

The state government has identified Tirupati as the ideal location for the first phase of the development of the institute. Tirupati was chosen as the base due to the availability of space and infrastructure in SV University, which agreed to allow IIDT to come up on its campus.

The SV University will make available about 40,000 sq ft built-up area to house the IIDT with state of the art classrooms and related infrastructure. Andhra Pradesh government today sanctioned a token grant of Rs 49 crore for setting up the institute and institution will start functioning from the 2016-17 year itself.

According to PS Pradyuman, secretary, IT, the Institute is aimed at addressing the challenges thrown up by information technology which has the tendency to become obsolete very fast.

“With rapid progress in technology, the IT industry is going through a massive change. The technologies like cloud, analytics, mobility and social media have started transforming the industry horizon. This has made the skills that were hitherto being used irrelevant and in some cases even obsolete."

"These new technologies need new skills and capabilities. The changing IT ecology needs a different methodology of teaching. The IIDT is meant to bridge the gap in the growing requirements and evolving technologies,” he said.

This, "Global Institute”, he said, will equip engineers with the next generation technologies which will rule the industry in the coming decade.

Unlike conventional universities, the faculty in IIDT will be from the industry and will adopt Indian School of Business (ISB) format of teaching.

To start with the institute will admit 200 students the number will go up every year, 300 in second year, 400 in third year and 600 in fourth year.
