Man arrested for forcing air hostess to take 'selfie'

Jet airways air hostess selfie

A 29-year-old man was arrested on Monday after he forcibly took a selfie with a Jet Airways air hostess on a flight from Damam (Saudi Arabia) to Mumbai.

Mohammed Abubakar was arrested in Mumbai after the air hostess made a complaint on arrival.

"I was walking on board when the passenger (Abubakar) caught my hand and said 'Chalo na yaar, ek selfie lete hai'. Despite objecting, he repeatedly misbehaved with me during the journey," the air hostess said in her complaint according to a Times Of India report.

Abubaker, who claims he works for a hotel in Daman, started misbehaving right after the flight took off from Damam. He allegedly kept following the air hostess around the plane and one point even grabbed by the shoulder to take a selfie. At this point, when the air hostess screamed for help, Abubaker ran into the toilet.

"Abubakar went to the toilet. He came out after smoking in there. The crew warned him and asked him to hand over his cigarette packet and lighter," sub-inspector VS Pawar of Mumbai Police was quoted saying.

"A probe is on to discover how he cleared the security check with an inflammable item like a cigarette lighter. By smoking on board, he endangered several lives," Pawar added. "His mobile phone has been seized and will be sent to the forensic sciences laboratory (FSL)."

Abubakar, who told the police that he had clicked the selfie "for fun" was arrested from the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) and has been booked under the Indian Penal Code's sections 354 (outraging modesty of women), and 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others), and under Aircraft Rules section 25 (safety violations). He is now in judicial custody.
