The gunman was later shot dead by law enforcement officers, who urged people to stay clear of the area.
The incident happened at 'Pulse', a gay club, and resulted in several casualties, with unconfirmed reports suggesting as many as 25 people dead or injured in the attack.
The Orlando police also carried out a controlled explosion at the site, but did not confirm if there was only one shooter involved in the deadly attack.
