A gunman went on a shooting rampage at an Orlando gay nightclub on Sunday, causing "mass casualties", according to the police, who are treating the incident as "terrorist activity".

The gunman was later shot dead by law enforcement officers, who urged people to stay clear of the area.

The incident happened at 'Pulse', a gay club, and resulted in several casualties, with unconfirmed reports suggesting as many as 25 people dead or injured in the attack.

The Orlando police also carried out a controlled explosion at the site, but did not confirm if there was only one shooter involved in the deadly attack.
