Most of the people who wish to own a pet in their lives are clear about adopting them; they want joy and happiness in their lives and want to share their lives with them as companions.

However, most of us are still unaware of the many physical and mental health benefits that our pets can provide us with. Many studies have also been carried out to scientifically explore the human-animal bond benefits.

Pets can have a significant impact on us, our lifestyle and many other aspects of our lives, says one of the prominent police personnel of Dubai named Masoud Alhammad, who serves as the Lieutenant Colonel of Dubai.

This man shines brighter each day with the work he has undertaken to better the wellbeing and lives of exotic animals at the zoo he has created for them in Dubai.

There are so many career choices that a person can choose from, but Masoud Alhammad, for the supreme soul that he is, chose a career of a policeman for serving his country and dived into animal husbandry for serving animals.

Below, he shares how pets can impact people’s health in ways more than one.

• Say bye to depression: Masoud Alhammad says that people today are so consumed by attaining successes in all that they do, so much that very easily they get depressed in life if they don’t reach their goals. Having pets really helps, he says. Pet owners are less likely to suffer any kind of depression as pets keep them active, on the run and spread only joy around.

• They calm you: Masoud Alhammad says that pets like dogs and cats can elevate serotonin and dopamine levels in humans, which can give them a relaxing and calming effect. Being around them gives people a sense of happiness, not found anywhere else.

• Provide companionship: They say companionship helps in preventing illnesses and adding years to life. Masoud Alhammad says that caring for animals can help people feel wanted and needed and take the focus away from their problems.

Speaking further, Masoud Alhammad also talks about the benefits of alternative pets other than dogs and cats. For example, lizards and snakes may seem cold, but studies have shown that they easily get attached to their owners.

Rabbits also help reduce stress, says the Lieutenant Colonel of Dubai and increases happy hormones in people. Keeping fish tanks and watching them has been scientifically proven to reduce stress levels and calm the heart rate.
