Greenland, Cuba, Iran Or Mexico? After Venezuela, What's Trump's Next Target
The US bombardment of Venezuela and the capture of its president, Nicolas Maduro, has worried all - far beyond Latin America - all the way to Greenland - where Donald Trump’s latest remarks are being read as an ominous signal of what could come next.

US captures Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro
Following a large-scale strike on Venezuela on Saturday, President Nicolas Maduro and his wife were captured by US forces and removed from the country. The couple have been indicted on drug charges in New York.

How world reacted to Venezuela President Maduro's capture by US
Neighbouring Latin American countries condemned the actions, as did Venezuela's long-term allies, Russia and China. China said it was "deeply shocked and strongly condemns" the use of force against a sovereign country and its president.
America's next target?
After action against Venezuela's Maduro, there's buzz about America's next move. Trump has reportedly hinted at plans for Jan 2026, sparking fears of a tough US stance on Iran, Mexico, Greenland, Cuba, and Colombia.
Trump warns of possible second strike on Venezuela
US President Donald Trump has said the United States could carry out another military strike in Venezuela if members of the country’s remaining leadership fail to cooperate with Washington’s plans for stabilising the country after the capture of President Nicolás Maduro.
Greenland deadline
Greenland is reportedly at the top of the list. Trump previously showed interest and his "get Greenland at any cost" remark has worried its administration, fearing it will raise tensions.
Trump, in Florida, said, "We need Greenland for national security, not for minerals. We have so many sites for minerals and oil and everything. We have more oil than any other country in the world. We need Greenland for national security."
Is Iran next?
Meanwhile, pressure on Iran is mounting. After a joint US-Israel attack in June 2025, a stern warning was reissued. Reports suggest Supreme Leader Khamenei might flee to Moscow if attacked, prompting Iran to boost its defenses.
Cuba Threat
Trump has also openly threatened Cuba. Cuba's government said its troops protected Maduro, losing 32 soldiers. Led by Miguel Díaz-Canel, Cuba is a traditional US foe. There's fear US actions in Jan 2026 will create new global tension.
