Elon Musk tops the list of world's richest people; a look at wealthiest people in 2021
The Bloomberg Billionaires Index provides a daily list of the world’s richest people, with its figures getting updated at the close of trading day.
Elon Musk: South African-born US tech entrepreneur Elon Musk dethroned Amazon.com Inc. founder Jeff Bezos and became the world’s richest person on the planet with a net worth of $209 billion.
Shares of Tesla Inc jumped as much as 5.6% on Friday, pushing the electric-car maker's market capitalisation to more than $800 billion for the first time ever and inching closer to the trillion dollar club.
Jeff Bezos: Overtaken by Musk as the world’s richest person, Bezos, the Amazon founder-CEO, was number 1 since October 2017. In July 2018, the 56-year-old’s net worth increased to $150 billion, which led to him being named the “richest man in modern history.” In 2013, he purchased the popular American newspaper, The Washington Post, at $250 million.
Bill Gates: The co-founder of the world's biggest software maker is a well-renowned person. Bill Gates is associated with Microsoft as well as his philanthropic works in the public eye. Gates is the fourth richest person, with a total net worth of USD 134 billion.
Bernard Arnault: French luxury tycoon Bernard Arnault is the chairman of the world's largest producer of luxury goods, LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton. With his total worth of USD 116 billion, the head of 70 brands, which includes such names as Louis Vuitton and Sephora, is the fourth richest person in the world.
Mark Zuckerberg: Zuckerberg, the chairman and co-founder of Facebook, is the only person under 40 in Forbes’ list of the 20 richest people. In November 2007, Zuckerberg, then aged 23, became the world’s youngest “self-made” billionaire. He has also featured regularly on the lists of the world’s most powerful and influential people.
Zhong Shanshan: Zhong Shanshan is a Chinese billionaire businessman, who founded and chairs Nongfu Spring, the largest beverage company in China. He is also the owner of the Chinese pharma giant 'Wantai'. He is the richest person in China and in December 2020, he became Asia's richest man, topping India's Mukesh Ambani.
Warren Buffet: Overtaken by Shanshan as the sixth richest person in January 2021, Buffet is one of the world’s most successful investors. He is also the chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, which, according to Forbes, is the eighth-largest public company in the world.
Larry Page: One of the two co-founders of Google, Page also served as its CEO for two terms, 1997-2001 and 2011-2015. He later became the CEO of Alphabet Inc, which was set up in 2015 and became the parent company of Google. Page served as CEO here till December 2019 but remains a board member and controlling shareholder.
Sergey Brin: Sergey Mikhaylovich Brin is an American computer scientist and Internet entrepreneur. Together with Larry Page, he co-founded Google. Brin was the president of Google's parent company, Alphabet Inc., until stepping down from the role on December 3, 2019.
Larry Ellison: Lawrence Joseph Ellison is an American business magnate, investor, and philanthropist who is a co-founder, the executive chairman and chief technology officer of Oracle Corporation. Forbes listed him as the sixth richest person in the world, the highest position he has achieved.
