Legendary Swedish footballer Zlatan Ibrahimovic has returned to international football after nearly five years. He would feature in Sweden's FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Ibrahimovic had initially announced his retirement in 2016 after Sweden finish at the bottom of its group during the UEFA Euro 2016. However, he contemplated returning during the 2018 World Cup, only for the rumours to be laid to rest by Swedish manager Janne Andersson.
Since his retirement, Ibrahimovic has continued to feature in club football and has played for numerous top clubs during this phase, including English giant Manchester United. He is currently playing for Serie A giant AC Milan and is now placed second in the league table.
Meanwhile, following his international return, Ibrahimovic took to his social media, stating, "The return of the God". Also, he told Swedish media Aftonbladet, "The one who does not miss it, he has already finished his career. And I have not finished my career," as reported by AFP.
"I think we'll be a better team with Zlatan. That's why he was selected. So, it's, of course, great that he wants to come back. In addition to what he can contribute on the pitch, he has loads of experience and can also share that with other players on the team," said Andersson.
As for Sweden's qualifiers, it would face Spain, Poland and Slovakia in its group. It also remains to be seen if he features in the side for the upcoming Euro, as Andersson would announce the squad for the same in May.
