How did COVID-19 lockdown impacted love, marriage and relationships?

The COVID-19 epidemic has altered our personal connections in unexpected ways, pushing us to live closer to certain individuals while living farther apart from others. Life under lockdown has required us to maintain tight, continual touch with our families and partners, while social distancing measures have alienated us from our friends and larger groups.

According to the results of a recent study on dating and married couples in India who were polled before and after India's COVID-19 lockdown, post-lockdown relationship satisfaction, love, intimacy, and passion have significantly reduced. The study, which was published in Family Relations, discovered that dating couples' commitment remained unchanged. Watching movies together and reliving old memories were activities linked with love for individuals who were dating. Household duties, cooking, and watching movies together were all connected with love among married couples.
The study comprised 100 people (65 dating and 35 married) polled in two waves, first in January-March and then again in May following the lockdown.

Kanika K. Ahuja, co-author and PhD, of India's Lady Shri Ram College for Women, said COVID-19 had caused collateral damage via love in relationships. She went on to say that the secret to preserving love is how couples spend their time together and that watching movies together, reminiscing about pleasant experiences, and sharing duties resulted in a stronger connection.

She said, "While it is widely thought that the gateway to a man's heart is through his stomach, the data demonstrate that a comparable channel exists for women as well, if guys want to use that route." She went on to say that in order to adjust to the new normal, the conventions that characterise a relationship, including men's engagement in household tasks, must be reconsidered.
