If you do not take proper care, your hair can look its worst due to frizz, breakage, heat damage, dandruff, hair fall and so on.
Your hair will look limp and lifeless if neglected, it is just like a house plant, you need to care for it or else you will see it wither away. Basic hair care is a must and so we list out ten tips on how to get your hair routine on track.
Detangle with fingers and serum: If you want to reduce split ends as much as you can, try this step. Apply a generous amount of serum on the ends and apply the remaining residue to the rest of the hair. Now slowly separate and detangle your ends, slowly moving up to your crown area. If you find tougher knots you can take a few more drops of serum and gently detangle. Only after this process should you consider running a detangling brush or comb through your hair.
Comb the hair wet: This step is specially recommended for curly hair, but women with straight and wavy hair should actually adopt this too. When your hair is wet, it is more elastic and therefore resilient to combing. There is minimum breakage and hair fall when you comb your hair wet. Make sure to use a wide toothed comb is you have frizzy hair. There are also specific wet brush tools available in the market.
Use products formulated for your hair type: This is super important. If you don’t, you will be surprised that your hair texture has changed. For example, if you have curly or frizzy hair and use a keratin shampoo and masque, your hair will start to smoothen a bit thanks to the product’s function. But, if you use a curl enhancing product on curly hair you will get bouncy curls which is exactly what you need from your personal haircare products. There are specified products for each hair type which is straight, wavy, frizzy, curly, chemically treated and ageing hair. Make your choice correctly.
Sleep on a silk pillow: This will minimise friction that usually leads to frizz and hair breakage. When you wake up in the morning you will be sure to have retained smooth and silky locks.
Leave your hair or braid it before bed: Another step to follow before bedtime, leaving your hair will ensure there is no breakage caused due to hair ties and friction. Braiding your hair before sleep will also keep damage and breakage at bay along with giving you wavy locks in the morning.
Apply leave-in products to the ends first and then the crown: Any leave-in products be it a serum, conditioner, styling cream or mousse, this step is important. When you put the product at the ends first it thoroughly hydrates and gives a little weight which is required at that area. Then the residue left on your palms should be applied to the crown and front area because that is just how little product you need for those areas. Add more and your front tendrils and crown area can look flat and greasy.
Hairspray can set your baby hair: For updos or when you tie a top knot, notice the frizz that shows up? It can be tamed with a soft bristle brush and hairspray. Just flatten the frizz with the brush and spritz.
Hair Masque treatments should last for 30 minutes: This should not be mistaken as a regular conditioner. Apply a masque before a hair wash. You must dampen your locks and apply it evenly. And then rinse it off with shampoo and conditioner after 30 minutes. This time period allows the product to penetrate deep within the strands and repair damage visibly in one sitting.
Engage in hot oil massages: Especially if you are going in for hair colour treatments, a hot oil massage is a must. For regular hair colour or uncoloured hair, a hot oil massage once a month is good to keep your scalp and hair healthy. If you have bleached your hair, make oiling an absolute rule. Oil regularly after bleaching and before applying a vibrant hue and notice what an amazing difference it makes.
