At a press conference at Camac Street office on Tuesday (January 12), TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh demanded the arrest of BJP leader Sovan Chatterjee for his alleged involvement with a chit fund company that looted money from people.
However, the former mayor of Kolkata Sovan Chatterjee responded to the allegations made against him by Kunal Ghosh. He claimed that he was not associated with any chit fund. Besides, he alleged that Kunal Ghosh had tried to frame him.
Showing an old photograph of Sovan Chatterjee with owners of a chit fund company, Kunal Ghosh said, “Sovan Chatterjee is clearly seen in the photograph attending a function with owners of the chit fund company. He had endorsed the firm. So, he should be arrested for promoting this firm which looted money from the people.”
Kunal Ghosh also alleged that Chatterjee was also involved in Saradha chit fund scam. “He took a bribe of Rs 1 crore from Saradha chit fund company owner. He did this while sitting on the chair of city mayor. He should go to jail for that,” he added.
Sovan Chatterjee rubbished all the allegations labelled against him by Kunal Ghosh. He said, “These are baseless allegations. I don’t have any connection with the chit fund company. Kunal was the main culprit in chit fund scams. He should first give clarification on the allegations labelled against him.”
Notably, former TMC Rajya Sabha MP Kunal Ghosh was arrested on November 23, 2013, in connection with the Saradha chit fund scam.
