MoD hands HAL contract for 83 Tejas aircraft at Aero India

The deal includes procurement of 73 Tejas Mk-1A variants and 10 LCA Tejas Mk-1 trainer aircraft.

<p>The Ministry of Defence today handed over the contract worth over Rs 48,000 crore to State owned Hindustan Aeronautics Limited for 83 Tejas aircraft. &nbsp;<br />&nbsp;</p><p>The deal includes the procurement of 73 Tejas Mk 1A variants and 10 LCA Tejas Mk 1 trainer aircraft.<br />&nbsp;</p><p>HAL CMD R Madhavan said that the first aircraft will be delivered within 36 months from the date of signing the contract. While all the aircraft will be supplied to IAF in 9 years.<br />&nbsp;</p><p>Tejas Mk 1A is an indigenously designed, developed and manufactured state of the art modern 4+ generation fighter aircraft.</p>

<p>It is equipped with critical operational capabilities of Beyond Visual Range (BVR) Missile, Electronic Warfare (EW) Suite, Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) Radar and Air to Air Refuelling (AAR).<br />&nbsp;</p><p>Terming LCA Tejas is better than its foreign equivalents on various parameters, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had on Tuesday said that the HAL will get orders for the aircraft from several countries very soon.<br />&nbsp;</p><p>Countries like Sri Lanka and Egypt have already shown interest in indigenously built Light Combat Aircraft Tejas.<br />&nbsp;</p><p>After inaugurating the second production line of LCA Tejas in Bengaluru on Tuesday, Rajnath had said: "Tejas is not only indigenous, but it is also better than its foreign equivalents on several parameters including engine capacity, radar system, beyond visual range, air-to-air refuelling and maintenance, and is comparatively cheaper."</p>
