India managed to bundle out England for a mere 112, while India has edged closer to a lead. In the meantime, we take a look at the records produced on Day 1.
Axar Patel scripts best figures
Axar absolutely demolished the English batting line-up, with figures of 6/38. On the same note, it was the best figures by an Indian spinner in the day-night Test, and overall, being the second, after Devendra Bishoo's 8/49 against Pakistan in 2016-17.

England scripts a lowest
England's total of 112 was its fourth-lowest in the format against India, with its lowest being 101 at The Oval in 1971. It was also the second-lowest in India, with the most inferior being 102 in Mumbai, in 1979-80. Also, it is the second-lowest score in the opening innings of a Test in India by a visiting team, with the lowest being 106 by Bangladesh in the 2019 D/N Test.
Indian spinners nail it in D/N Tests
Axar, along with Ravichandran Ashwin, nailed it with the spin. Together, they scalped nine wickets, which is the most by spinners in an innings of a D/N Test. The previous record was Bishoo's 8/49.
Ashwin betters yet another Indian record
Ashwin scalped 3/26 in this innings. In the process, he has now bettered Zaheer Khan's record of most wickets across formats and has become the fourth-most wicket-taker in the same. While Ashwin has claimed 598, Zaheer had scalped 597. The record for the same is held by Anil Kumble (953).
England scripts a unique one
The Test matches in India are played with SG deliveries, while England plays at home with Dukes, besides Kookaburra being used in the other nations. Meanwhile, England has become the first side to play the D/N Test using all three balls.
Wickets galore on Day 1
As many as 13 wickets fell on Day 1. As a result, it is the joint-most instance of wickets falling on the opening day of a D/N Test.

Winning the toss and electing to bat, England was bowled out for 112, courtesy Axar's 6/38. Meanwhile, India has steadied the ship but has been slow, with opener Rohit Sharma holding the fort.
