Thalapathy Vijay will not celebrate his birthday this year, in view of the killings in Tuticorin due to Sterlite protest.

One of the biggest superstars of Kollywood, Vijay's birthday is on June 22 and this year he will turn 44.

The actor has been vocal about the treatment meted out to the protesters at Tuticorin or Thoothukudi, who were staging a stir against the expansion of the Sterlite company. At least 13 people died in the shootout by the police in Thoothukudi.

As Vijay is not active on social media, he personally visited the houses of victims and was seen consoling them. He had donated Rs 1 lakh each to the families of the victims.

Thus, Vijay, showing solidarity with the lives lost, has decided not to celebrate his birthday in a grand way. Otherwise, every year June 22 is a festive day for Ilayathalapathy's fans and thousands of them try to visit the actor and wish him on his birthday.

Vijay did not get any media attention when he visited the houses of the victims. And this decision of not celebrating his birthday too is according to his conscience and not to gain any publicity.

This move is being appreciated by people across the state.
