This year, the South India International Movie Awards (SIIMA) 2017 is going to be held in Abu Dhabi on June 30 and July. The award function will see in attendance the biggest names from the South Indian Film Industry. This time for the first time VIVO SIIMA hosted its Short Film Awards for the Telugu and Kannada languages in Hyderabad.

Kannada short film Chowkabara which is directed by Raghu Shivamogga won SIIMA award. The movie had also won the State award last year. According to reports, Raghu is all set to make his first feature film debut and shooting is on full swing in various parts of Karnataka.

After winning the SIMA award, Raghu thanked SIMA for recognising the short movie genre. He said he was grateful for the honour bestowed on him. "For the first time, we released this short movie, Chowkabara, in theatres. We didn't want it to restrict short movies to online views, alone. Also, the state government's first state award to 'Chowkabara' is encouraging," Raghu said.

Raghu has learnt theatre at Ninasam and started working under renowned filmmakers including Suresh B and Prakash Belawadi. The award-winning director showed his off-beat directing skills in many Kannada TV daily shows, and now he is set to take a plunge into 70mm screen.

Coming back to Chowkabara, the short movie is 20 mins long where you can see various shades of characters. This movie has an open ending, so it will make you think deep about the conclusion.

The award ceremony saw in attendance Rana Daggubati, Lakshmi Manchu, Regina Cassandra, Allu Sirish, Pranitha Subhash and Shradha Shrinath.

The movie features, Achyuth Kumar, Nandini, Manjunath Hegde, Kiran and Jaggu
