Chester Bennington, the singer of the chart-topping nu-metal, and more recently an industrial pop band Linkin Park was found dead in his Los Angeles home. He was 41.

Los Angeles authorities were alerted shortly after 9:00 am (1600 GMT) about his death at his residence and "it is being handled as a possible suicide," said Brian Elias, chief of operations at the county coroner's office.

His death was reportedly caused by hanging.

His fellow bandmate Mike Shinoda took to Twitter to express shock and grief.

The death comes as a shock to the world rock community with Chester being the second to commit suicide this year. Chester friend and Soundgarden and Audioslave singer Chris Cornell also died by suicide earlier this year. 

Chester has committed suicide on the birthday of his pal Chris.

Chester, who was friends with Chris, had written an open letter after his death where he called the Soundgarden-frontman an inspiration and that his talent was pure and unrivalled.

Chester Bennington was also the godfather to Chris Cornell’s 11-year-old son.

He is survived by his wife Talinda Bennington and six children.

Friends and fans including Chris Cornell’s wife took to Twitter to express shock grief and also gratitude for the impact Chester made on their lives.
