Actress beaten by son abandoned in Mumbai hospital

This is one of the most heartbreaking news to grab the headlines since 28th May.

A junior artist in Pakeezah, Geeta Kapoor (58), was admitted to SRV Hospital in Goregaon, Mumbai on April 21 by her son Raja, only to be abandoned by him later.

Reports say that the hospital has lodged a complaint with the police, who are now trying to track down Geeta's family. According to the reports, Raja brought Geeta to the hospital to get her treated for falling blood pressure. The reports suggested that at the hospital, when asked to deposit some money, Raja went out 'looking' for an ATM, and never returned.

However, doctors decided to treat Geeta, as her health was deteriorating. The hospital's efforts to reach Geeta's son and daughter Pooja failed. Since then the actress has been staying at the hospital, and the bill has reached a hefty sum of Rs 1.5 lakh, as her treatment gets extensive.

Pictures and videos of Geeta weeping after being abandoned by her son caught the attention of social media. Later, popular film producers Ramesh Taurani and Ashoke Pandit have reportedly come forward to help the Pakeezah actress.

A popular entertainment website contacted Ramesh Taurani about the case. He said that he did not know Geeta personally, but read the news, and hence decided to come forward to help her.

In an interview with Mid-Day, Geeta said about her son Raja, "He used to beat me up as I did not approve of his philandering ways. He used to starve me for days, and even lock me up for several days. Raja deliberately kept me hungry, and I fell ill. Then, he got me admitted and fled."

Reportedly, Geeta's son Raja moved out for their flat as soon as he admitted Geeta into the hospital, indicating that the plan to abandon his mother had been in motion for months now.
