"Too much": Allu Arjun expresses dismay over cops entering his bedroom during arrest in Pushpa 2 stampede case
Allu Arjun has been charged with non-bailable offenses in connection with a fatal stampede at Pushpa 2's premiere. Expressing dismay, he criticized police for "invading his bedroom" during his arrest amid growing tensions and ongoing investigation.
Hyderabad: Telugu film star Allu Arjun has been charged with non-bailable offenses in connection with the tragic death of a woman during a stampede at the premiere of his latest film, Pushpa 2, in Hyderabad. The charges include sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 118(1) (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code, with a potential sentence of 5 to 10 years of imprisonment, though the magistrate has the discretion to grant bail.
Allu Arjun is set to be presented in court today before the Nampally magistrate, while a medical examination will also be conducted at Osmania Medical College. He was taken into police custody from his Jubilee Hills residence. Reports indicate that Allu Arjun expressed dissatisfaction and confusion during his arrest, questioning why he was taken from his bedroom. A minor altercation reportedly occurred when he asked for time to have breakfast, as tensions escalated with the Hyderabad Police Task Force during the arrest. His father, Allu Aravind, and wife, Sneha Reddy, were reportedly involved in an argument with police officers during this time.
"I am ready to cooperate and there’s nothing wrong with you trying to take me into custody. But invading my bedroom and taking me away outside the bedroom is a bit too much," Allu Arjun told the police officers.
The arrest stems from the death of Revathi (39) of Dilsukhnagar, who was killed in the stampede at the premiere show of Pushpa 2 at Sandhya Theater, one of Hyderabad's oldest and most well-known cinema complexes, on December 4, the day before the film’s official release, as part of the paid premieres held across multiple theaters.
Revathi had arrived at the theater with her husband, Mogadampally Bhaskar, their son Sritej, and their younger daughter Sanvika. Reports indicate that Bhaskar left to drop Sanvika at a relative’s house near the theater because she was crying. During this time, Allu Arjun arrived at the venue in an open jeep to greet fans, which heightened excitement among the gathered crowd and led to the stampede.
In the chaos, Revathi fell while trying to protect her son Sritej from the surging crowd and the child sustained serious injuries. Police reports indicate they were informed very late about Allu Arjun’s arrival, leaving them unable to make adequate security preparations. Additionally, investigators allege that Allu Arjun's private security team mishandled the situation by failing to control the crowd effectively.
Additionally, cases have been filed against Sandhya Theater’s management, Allu Arjun’s private security personnel, and members of the film crew who were present at the time.
While Allu Arjun has approached the Telangana High Court to seek anticipatory bail, the court has only accepted the case file so far. The police action came before the actor could finalize his plea for bail.
