Former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina, along with renowned singer Guru Randhawa, has been arrested in Mumbai for partying late night, during curfew hours on Monday. Nonetheless, both have been released on bail.

According to a report by India Today, he was reportedly partying at the Mumbai Dragonfly club near to the airport. A total of 34 people were arrested, along with seven staff members of the club, while they were charged with violation of COVID norms.

According to the police, the arrested people, including Raina, were booked under Section 188 (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), 269 (whoever unlawfully or negligently does any act which is, and which he knows or has reason to believe to be, likely to spread the infection of any disease dangerous to life), 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC and the provisions of NMDA.

Meanwhile, Raina's management came up with an explanation, stating that the former was not aware of the local timings and protocols, and that he immediately complied with the authorities upon being pointed out. “Suresh was in Mumbai for a shoot which extended to late hours and was invited by a friend for a quick dinner post the same prior to him taking his flight back to Delhi. He was not aware of the local timings and protocols. Once pointed out, he immediately complied with the procedures laid out by the authorities and regrets the unfortunate and unintentional incident. He always holds rules and laws laid down by governing bodies with the highest regard and will continue to do so in the future as well," the statement read.

The arrest comes after a day the Maharashtra government imposed late-night curfew in the areas of the municipal corporation, in order to help contain the new variant of coronavirus, that has wreaked havoc in the United Kingdom (UK). While all UK-bound flights have been cancelled, as a medium of precaution, the state government has also imposed various restrictions in public activity, ahead of the new year, from December 22 to January 5.

Earlier on Monday, Raina had taken to his Instagram handle to share a picture with Bollywood actor, Sunny Deol. He captioned it, "Great meeting you @iambobbydeol Paaji .. Had a wonderful discussion on cricket. Lots of love & see you soon ✌️".
