As the build-up to the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League continues, Royal Challengers Bangalore has roped in Sanjay Bangar as the batting consultant for its side. He would now work with batting coach Sridharan Sriram and head coach Simon Katich, as he would begin his role with the pre-season conditioning camp.

Bangar was previously associated in a similar role with Kings XI Punjab. However, after three years, he quit the role, as he was appointed as Team India’s assistant coach in 2017.

Following his appointment, Mike Hesson, RCB’s Director of Cricket Operations, expressed his delight. “Delighted to add a Coach of Sanjay Bangar’s experience to our existing coaching team led by Head Coach Simon Katich. We are very fortunate at RCB to now have Sanjay join Sriram and Simon as batting coaches who can offer superb knowledge and experience to our playing squad throughout the IPL,” he said in an official statement by RCB.

Furthermore, Rajesh Menon, RCB’s Head of Business, reckoned, “Sanjay Bangar brings a wealth of experience, both as a player and as a batting coach. We are sure that he will be able to bring in his expertise to maximize the potential, especially of the young Indian talent. I want to thank Sanjay for coming on board as RCB’s batting consultant and congratulate him on this appointment.”

Meanwhile, Bangar expressed his admiration for the side, besides thanking it for showing trust and bestow the opportunity on him. “I would like to thank Mike (Hesson), Simon (Katich), Virat (Kohli) and the RCB management for reposing faith in me and roping me in as a batting consultant for RCB. I will try my utmost to pass on the experience that I gained over the years, and help achieve the potential of the team… and help achieve the long-cherished goals of RCB as a franchise,” he declared.

RCB is one of the three sides in the IPL to have never won the title to date. In 2020, it managed to finish in the fourth spot, while it finished as runner-up on three occasions.
