IPL 2021: Player Auction set to take place on February 18

The 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League would be the 14th edition of the profitable Twenty20 league. Mumbai Indians is the record five-time defending champion. A mini-auction is set to take place before the season gets underway, which is to be played in April-May.

The 14th edition of the gainful Indian Premier League is likely to be played in April-May this year. Meanwhile, as per the tradition, a pre-season auction ceremony would occur, scheduled to be held on February 18, in Chennai, as confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India on Wednesday.

It would be a mini-auction, before the mega auction next season. A selected number of players are scheduled to go under the hammer. It was last week when the franchises finalised the list of their retained and released players. Notably, some big names are up for it.

Besides the 55 released players, some other players would also be up for auction. Although the final list for the same is yet to be finalised, it is likely to be above 100. Meanwhile, 139 players were retained by the franchises.

A total of ₹196.6 crore is the purse available. Meanwhile, Kings XI Punjab is the team with the most bag, of ₹53.20 crore. While Sunrisers Hyderabad has the most retained players, Royal Challengers Bangalore has released the most, as many as 10.

Mumbai Indians is the record five-time defending champion. While the 2020 edition was held in the United Arab Emirates, behind closed doors, the 2021 edition would be held in India. However, the availability of fans at the venues remains to be seen, while the upcoming tour by
