Bengaluru: Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) have a new coach and new captain for the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020). They are hoping to win their maiden trophy but a former Australian cricketer thinks the Punjab franchise will finish last this year and he has given his reason for saying that.

IPL 2020 will commence on September 19 in Abu Dhabi. The league was moved out of India to the UAE due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

All eight teams are preparing in the UAE after landing there in the last week of August. KXIP have KL Rahul as their skipper and Anil Kumble as the head coach.

When a fan asked this question, “KXIP — Problem of plenty when it comes to the overseas players in their side?”, former Australian spinner Brad Hogg said they will finish at the bottom of the IPL table. Last year, they had finished at the sixth spot under the leadership of Ravichandran Ashwin. For this season, Ashwin has moved to Delhi Capitals (DC).

“For me, their overseas player contingent is all match-winners apart from spinner (Mujeeb-ur) Rahman from Afghanistan and (Chris) Jordan. Those two have specific roles in this particular team and are quality bowlers,” Hogg said on his YouTube channel.

“But the other guys there like Maxwells, Gayles, and Neeshams, they just have the odd standout games, they are not very consistent with what you want with an overseas player. With you overseas players, you want them to win you matches, you want them to be consistent throughout the tournament. They are too much up and down. That’s why Kings XI are going to finish last,” the IPL player added.
