India is up against Australia in the first three-match Twenty20 International (T20I) at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on Tuesday. Both teams would be desperate to draw first blood, especially the hosts, who are coming off an unimpressive outing in the Asia Cup 2022 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) earlier this month. The visitors have won the coin toss and have asked the hosts to bat first. Meanwhile, India does not have pacer Jasprit Bumrah and wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant in the playing XI, as skipper Rohit Sharma has explained.

After losing the toss, Rohit indicated, "It is an opportunity to test ourselves. Every game is a big game to learn. We learned much in the last six-eight months about winning games. This series will be no different for us to express ourselves. Looking at what happened in the Asia Cup, we had a chance to reflect on where we went wrong."

"This allows us to correct ourselves as a group. Nothing changes in terms of our approach. Unfortunately, there are some injuries in the squad. Bumrah is not playing. He will take a game's break and probably come back in the second and the third game. We have Axar and Chahal. Pant misses out," added Rohit.

In contrast, Australian captain Aaron Finch articulated, "We're going to have a bowl first. It is about building up to the [ICC T20] World Cup and getting some information about our boys. [We're] Excited. You expect to be tested. Hopefully, some dew comes out. The pitch looks hard and flat. We have one change from our earlier XI. Cameron Green will open the batting."
