Sports Minister Anurag Thakur on Monday took to Twitter to show some of his skills with the hockey stick.
The video shows the minister wielding the hockey stick and balancing the ball. He manages to tap the ball eight times before he loses control and ends up catching the ninth tap.
The video posted by Anurag Thakur's office was captioned, "Time to hit our goals this week."
The Sports Minister had yesterday come down hard upon Hockey India for unilaterally deciding to withdraw from next year's Commonwealth Games in Birmingham without consulting the government.
Chiding Hockey India, he said that the association us is bound to consult with the government, which is the main financier of Olympic sports in the country, on matters of national representation.
He said that at international events like the Commonwealth Games, it is not the federation's team but the national team that takes part.
Hockey India had last week withdrawn from the 2022 Commonwealth Games citing Coronavirus concerns in the United Kingdom and the country's discriminatory quarantine rules for travellers from India.
Anurag Thakur, however, reiterated that the final decision in this regard will be taken by the central government.
Citing Indian Premier League's example, the Sports Minister said that if cricketers could play two tournaments back-to-back (a reference to T20 World Cup) then there is no reason players of other sports can do the same.
