Gun salute during former underworld don Muthappa Rai’s funeral; Ramanagara Police arrest 7

The Ramanagara Police were left embarrassed after gun shots were fired in the air as a mark of respect during the funeral of former under world don Muthappa Rai on May 15. The police arrested seven persons in this connection. 

 

According to information, five bullets were fired in the air as part of 'gun salute' for former underworld don by his foot soldiers. 

 

The police now have booked seven persons under the Arms Act and their weapons have been seized. 

 

Former underworld  don Muthappa Rai was active in late 1980s, but was caught and jailed. Upon his release, he claimed to have reformed and started real estate business and later moved to Bidadi on Bengaluru outskirts where he built a farm house. The former don also started a pro-Kannada outfit called Jaya Karnataka. 

 

Rai was sick in the last few years and had even moved to Singapore for treatment. Later, he continued undergoing treatment in Bengaluru. He recently announced that he is suffering from cancer and may not live long. He also made a 'will' and wanted to give a share of his wealth to his loyalists, who have been with him for the last 15 years and more.
