In the Amboori Rakhi murder case, three men were found guilty by the Vanchiyoor Magistrate Court on Thursday (June 8). The quantum of punishment was pronounced today by the court wherein the three convicts have been sentenced to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 4.5 lakhs on each of the culprits.

A low-pressure is being formed over northeast Bay of Bengal off the Myanmar coast, India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Friday. Biparjoy, a severe cyclonic storm, is forecast to intensify further in 36 hours and move north-northwestward during the next two days. It is now over the east-central Arabian Sea and the adjacent southeast Arabian Sea. Karnataka, Maharashtra, Goa, and Kerala's coastal regions are anticipated to experience strong winds and rains.

2.40 PM: Kerala govt to form 'grievance redressal cells' to prevent suicide cases in universities

The Kerala government announced the creation of "grievance redressal cells" on Thursday to investigate complaints made by students in colleges and universities in the state following the escalation of protests over the alleged suicide of an engineering student Shraddha Satheesh (20) from a private college in the Kottayam district. Principals of colleges and department heads of universities, respectively, would serve as the panel's chairs. The new committee will also include representatives from student unions, nominees from the Parent Teachers' Association (PTA), and representatives from the university syndicate.

1.09 PM: Private bus crashes into a roadside tree in Kozhikode; 11 injured

A private bus crashed into a tree in Kozhikode's Kottoli on Friday morning, injuring at least 11 people. According to reports, the private bus lost control and rammed into a tree on the opposite side of the road. The bus operates services on the Thamarassery-Kozhikode route. The bus was severely damaged in the crash.


12.15 PM: Shraddha death case: Police to probe suicide note recovered from hostel room

The suicide not recovered from the Amal Jyothi Engineering College hostel room of Shraddha Satheesh is alleged to be mysterious. The SP informed that a suicide note was recovered and a scientific examination will be conducted to find out who actually wrote it. The SP also said that no case has been filed against any of the students. 


11.51 AM: Kalady University VC orders probe into former SFI leader K Vidya's Ph.D admission 

The Kalady University Vice Chancellor has ordered an inquiry into former SFI leader K Vidya's Ph.D. admission programme. The government had made it clear that a syndicate sub-committee would be tasked with the investigation. The VC will check whether the candidates who are eligible for reservation were excluded and given admission to Vidya. The documents related to Ph.D. admission will be collected from the Malayalam department and checked.


10.20 AM:  Kerala to receive heavy rainfall in next 5 days; IMD issues yellow alert in 8 districts

Due to the intensity of Cyclone Biparjoy, Kerala will receive widespread rain from Thiruvananthapuram to Kannur in the next five days. A yellow alert has been issued today in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Kozhikode and Kannur districts. 


10.09 AM: AI camera installed post knocked down in Palakkad's Wadakkancherry

A vehicle knocked down an AI Camera installed post at around 11 pm on Thursday. The camera and the post that fell on the ground were found in a nearby coconut grove. The Wadakkancherry police said they suspected that the vehicle had been deliberately rammed into the post where the camera was installed and received a tip-off about the vehicle.

Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs John Barla flagged off a special flight carrying women hajj pilgrims without mehram from Kozhikode Airport on Friday.


9.24 AM: Kerala man accused of killing his 4-year-old daughter attempts suicide in jail; Health condition improves

The accused Mahesh, who killed his 4-year-old daughter Nakshatra, is undergoing treatment after he tried to commit suicide in Mavelikkara sub-jail. According to reports, Mahesh who is in the surgical ICU of Alappuzha Medical College, has started to respond.

8.28 AM: CM Pinarayi Vijayan, team land in New York for Loka Kerala Sabha

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday landed in New York for the Loka Kerala Sabha meet. The Chief Minister and his team were received by NORKA director Dr M Anirudhan and organisational committee president Manmadhan Nair.
