3.45 PM: Kerala: LLB student from Kozhikode sets record for memory power

 An LLB student from Kozhikode set the London-based Time world record for memorizing the names of a sequence of American presidents in 28 seconds. The record was held by Sharoon. S. Deep, is a first-year LLB student at MCT College of Legal Studies in Malappuram.


3:00 pm: One person injured as kathina burst during temple festival in Malappuram

One person was injured as a kathina accidentally burst during a festival at the Pandikkad Karinkali temple in Malappuram. The victim, identified as Karimbanakunath Velayudhan (62) from Melatoor, was injured in the explosion. He was promptly admitted to the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital for medical attention.


2:45 pm: Kerala to receive heavy rainfall for the next five days

The India Meteorological Department has predicted rain in the state for the next five days. A yellow alert has also been announced in various districts on January 4 and 5. The IMD announced a yellow alert in Ernakulam district on January 4 and Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasargod districts on the January 5. 


2:10 pm: Malayalam actors come to aid of young farmers who lost 13 cattle due to food poisoning

As many as 13 cattle belonging to a young farmer Mathew Benny died allegedly after eating dried tapioca hull in Velliyamattom on Monday. The cattle belonged to two children George (18) and Mathew (15). The latter had previously won the state award for the best child dairy farmer. The condition of the remaining 5 cows continues to be critical. 

At the same time, Malayalam actors like Jayaram, Prithviraj, and Mammootty have come to the aid of the young farmers. Actor Jayaram reached the home of the children this morning and handed over Rs 5 lakh for the children. Jayaram also stated that Mammootty promised to give Rs 1 lakh and Prithviraj promised to give Rs 2 lakh to the young farmers.  It is reported that both of them will hand over the money to the children this evening through a special messenger.


1.15 PM: Youth Congress protest in Palarivattom: Case filed against Hibi Eden MP among others

A case has been filed against the people's representatives who besieged the Kochi Palarivattam police station against the police move to lock the black flag protesters. The FIR has been registered against prominent Congress and Youth Congress workers, including Hibi Eden MP and three MLAs. The opposition alleged that the conspiracy in the chief minister's office was behind the filing of the case. 


12.30 PM: BJP workers paint graffiti announcing Suresh Gopi as Thrissur candidate

No political party has announced its nominees for the next round of general elections. However, BJP workers surprised everyone by painting graffiti pleading with people to support actor-politician Suresh Gopi, who is anticipated to contest from the constituency.


11.55 AM: Kerala: CCTV shows police personnel vandalising private vehicles amid New Year celebrations in Alappuzha

In a bizarre incident, police were allegedly seen vandalising some private vehicles on New Year's Eve. However, a case was registered against some youths for vandalising vehicles. CCTV footage emerged showing police pushing and destroying cars. Salu, a resident of Nooranad, and perhaps ten of his friends faced legal action for damaging cars. Subsequently, the startling CCTV footage of the police intervention surfaced.

11.25 AM: Kerala: Sabarimala to stop spot booking from January 10 ahead of Makaravilakku

The Travancore Devaswom Board has decided to stop spot booking facilities from January 10 considering the police's suggestion. The Travancore Devaswom Board has decided to avoid spot booking for Ayyappa devotees for Sabarimala darshan from January 10 because of the increasing rush of devotees at the shrine.

11.00 AM: Kerala: 15-year-old Gautam Suresh succumbs to rare genetic disease

Gautham Suresh, a native of Kollam, who was undergoing treatment for a rare genetic disease, passed away. He was 15. The child recently received the Aadhaar card after Asianet News reported Gautham's plight, including the inability to renew Aadhaar. He died at 1.30 pm on Sunday while undergoing treatment at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College.

10.30 AM: Massive fire breaks out at Chaliyam fish market in Kozhikode

A massive fire broke out in the Chaliyam fish market in Kozhikode last night and incurred a loss of lakhs of rupees. The thatched sheds used to store fishing and marketing materials were destroyed in the fire. The cause of the fire is not clear. Kerosene was stored in several sheds and the fire broke out within seconds. About 2,000 boxes, including 700 plastic boxes belonging to the Elahi Group were gutted.


10.15 AM: Rain update: IMD issues yellow alert in three districts on January 4

The IMD has issued a yellow alert in three districts including Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts for Thursday (Jan 4). These districts are expected to receive 7- 11 cm of rainfall in 24 hours. According to IMD, rain or thundershowers are most likely to occur at one or two places in Kerala from January 1 to 3 and January 5 to 7, and at a few places on January 4.


9.45 AM: 450 grams of gold seized in Karipur

Air Customs Intelligence seized 450 grams of gold at Karipur airport. Gold worth Rs 23 lakh was seized from a Malappuram native from Sharjah.


9.30 AM: Police intensify search for Jharkhand native who sexually assaulted 12-year-old girl in Idukki

The police intensified their search for the absconding native of Jharkhand who molested a 12-year-old girl in Munnar. A 12-year-old girl from Jharkhand was molested three days ago. The girl survived and was shifted to a safe center by the Child Welfare Department. After the child showed physical and mental difficulties, the parents approached the police. After the examination at the hospital, it was confirmed that she was sexually assaulted. The girl states that when her parents were not at home, a neighbor from Jharkhand took her to a nearby deserted area and raped her.


9.15 AM: Holiday announced for educational institutions in Thrissur tomorrow

The district collector has declared a local holiday for educational institutions including professional colleges in Thrissur taluk limits tomorrow. The holiday is due to Prime Minister Narendra Modi attending a public meeting at Thekkinkadu Maidan. The holiday does not apply to pre-scheduled public examinations and examinations conducted for recruitment to Central and State Government Institutions. Collector VR Krishna Teja informed that any Saturday will be made a working day instead of this holiday.

8.30 AM: Two students injured after their legs stuck between platform and train

Two students got injured when their feet got stuck between the train and the platform. Farhan and Shamim, natives of Aluva were injured. The accident happened while they were traveling with their feet down on the step platform of the train. The incident took place at Thrissur's Ollur railway station.


8.23 AM: Nava Kerala Sadas to conclude today in Ernakulam

The Nava Kerala Sadas will conclude today in Ernakulam after touring all 140 constituencies in the state by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his cabinet ministers. The cabinet will attend public meetings at Kunnathukadu and Thripunnithura constituencies today at 3 pm and 5 pm. Though the programme was concluded before, the Nava Kerala Sadas were pending at 4 constituencies in the Ernakulam district following the demise of CPI leader Kanam Rajendran. 


8.12 AM: PM Modi to visit Kerala tomorrow; To hold road show in Thrissur

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Kerala on Wednesday (Jan 3). He will kick off BJP's electioneering as Lok Sabha elections are around the corner. He will attend the party's women empowerment conference at the Thekkinkadu Maidan in Thrissur.
