The Southwest Monsoon is rapidly advancing across the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal, and it's about to reach Karnataka. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) reports that even before the monsoon officially starts, many districts in the state can expect heavy rain and strong winds.

Monsoon arrival date announced
According to the weather department's forecast, the Southwest Monsoon will likely enter Kerala around May 26. Right now, the monsoon winds are active over the southwest and southeast Bay of Bengal, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. They are expected to get even stronger in the next 3-4 days.
The IMD has issued a forecast for heavy thunderstorms in some districts on May 18 and 19. Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, and Shivamogga will be especially affected, with winds blowing at 40 to 50 km/h. A heavy rain alert is also in place for Gadag and Haveri districts in North Interior Karnataka.
Coastal Karnataka: Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts will see heavy rain and strong winds. Uttara Kannada district is likely to get moderate rainfall. North Interior Karnataka: The IMD has predicted thunderstorms and hailstorms for Belagavi district. Dharwad, Koppal, and Raichur will have scattered showers, while other districts will remain dry.
In the next 24 hours, moderate rain is expected in Bengaluru Rural, Bengaluru Urban, Chamarajanagar, Chikkaballapura, Hassan, Kolar, Mandya, Mysuru, Ramanagara, and Tumakuru districts. Meanwhile, Ballari, Vijayanagara, and Chitradurga will receive light showers.
