Prominent criminal lawyer CP Udayabhanu, who was arrested in connection with the murder of real estate agent Rajeev, has reportedly told the police the killing was an "accident" committed by the other accused.

When questioned at the DySP office, Udayabhanu confessed to the cops that he had instructed Chakkara Johny and Renjith, two of the accused, to abduct Rajeev and keep him in captivity.

However, the renowned advocate insisted that he never ordered to murder him. The former public prosecutor said the plan was to abduct Rajeev and make him sign some documents to retrieve some money they lost due to him.

"I only wanted Rajeev's signature in some documents. I have no role in the murder. It was committed by the other accused and was an accident," reports quoted Udayabhanu as saying.

The police arrested Udayabhanu from his brother’s house near Hill Palace in Thripunithura on Wednesday night. However, relatives reportedly said the arrest was made when he was planning surrender.

Real estate dealer Rajeev was found murdered in a deserted building at Chalakudy near Thrissur in September. The police allegedly found that Udayabhanu gave a quotation for the murder after a dispute arose between him and Rajeev over a land deal they were both part of.
