South African woman delivers 10 babies in one go, enters record book
A South African woman Gosiame Thamara Sithole entered into the record book for delivering 10 babies at once. The woman beat the previous record of Moroccan woman Malian Halima Cisse, 25 who had delivered 9 babies last month. Out of 10 babies, Sithole delivered 7 boys and 3 girls.
A South African Gosiame Thamara Sithole, 37, conceived 10 babies and successfully delivered them at one go at a hospital in Pretoria on Monday, thus breaking the previous record of 9 live births. Â
As per reports, Moroccan woman Malian Halima Cisse, 25, delivered 9 babies. Among the nonuplets, 5 were girls and 4 were boys and held the World Guinness record as the only woman to have delivered 9 children at one go, but within a month, South Africa's Gosiame Thamara Sithole beat the record and delivered 10 babies. Among the 10, 7 are boys and 3 are girl babies through cesarean, taking the count to 12 as the woman already has 6-year-old twins.
Meanwhile, authorities from Guinness World Records are said to be verifying the claims of ten babies birth at one go. Â
Since the newborns fall under the 'high risk' category, they have been kept in incubators and are being monitored for a few more days, says a report.
Shocked by the development as she expected only 6 babies in her womb, the woman was quoted as saying, "I was convinced that if it was more, it would be twins or triplets, not more than that. When the doctor told me, I took time to believe it."
The woman claims she worried about complications, like babies with conditions like conjoined at the head, in the stomachs or hands, however after scan results and now after delivery, she breathes sigh of relief.
"How would they fit in the womb? Would they survive? What if they came out conjoined at the head, in the stomachs or hands?" she said. "I asked myself all these questions until the doctor assured me that my womb was starting to expand inside. God made a miracle and my children stayed in the womb without any complications." a report quoted the proud mother of 10 babies as saying.
