In the latest development, the federal transport ministry said Canada would extend its ban on arriving passenger flights from India to September 21 because of the risks posed by COVID-19. However, the ban does not extend to cargo flights or medical transfers. It was first imposed on April 22 and had been extending several times due to the rise of coronavirus.

Meanwhile, if any Indian wants to fly to Canada, one must book a flight via an 'indirect route'. As per the latest advisory issued, Canada will not accept the COVID test from India, so travellers will have to get tested in another country before heading to Canada. The travellers have to prove the test conducted between 14 to 90 days before their departure.

The United Kingdom has recently removed India from the red list and put it in the amber list of countries, which means travel from India to the UK is now allowed but with caution.

For the unaware, Canada is not the first country to put travel restrictions for passengers travelling from India. Many countries have denied entry or transit for travellers arriving from India. If the passenger tests positive during transit, they might be quarantined or sent back to their point of departure.
