Indian sprinter Dutee Chand has come out in support of Algerian boxer Imane Khelif amid her controversial bout against Italian pugilist Angela Carini in the pre-quarterfinals of the women's 60kg category at the Paris Olympics 2024 on Thursday (August 1).

Dutee Chand has received a career setback after testing positive for banned substances. She has been provisionally suspended.

India's dream for a medal in the track event of athletics in the Tokyo Olympics has taken a hit after top sprinter Dutee Chand finished seventh in her heat, failing to qualify for the semis of the 200m event.

The Indians did not have a great outing in athletics either, failing to qualify for the semis of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. While Dutee Chand could not make the cut in the 100m race, MP Jabir could not do the same in the 400m hurdles.

The Tokyo Olympics begins on July 23. Meanwhile, most of the significant Indian athletes in track and field events have secured their qualifications, while top star Dutee Chand has become the latest to book her place in the 100m and 200m race events.

For Khelo India University Games, as many as 3,400 athletes from 159 universities across the country have been given entries in 17 disciplines, including rugby which is among the six team events
