The athletics department in the Tokyo Olympics 2020 kicked off on Friday. However, the Indians did not have the best outing in the qualifiers, failing to make it to the semis.

Renowned Indian sprinter Dutee Chand took part in the heats of the 100m race. However, she finished with a clock speed of 11.54, as she finished seventh, which was not enough to make it to the semis.

Shelly-Ann Frasher-Pryce topped in the heat 5, with a clock speed of 10.84, while in the second was Ajla del Ponte, with 10.91. As per the rules, the first three in each heat automatically qualified for the semis, while the next best combined three make it to the same.
