Apple has announced that iOS developers will soon inform their consumers about payment options other than the Apple App Store. Apple made the news in a press release following years of controversy concerning Apple's App Store procedures and treatment of developers. Developers will now be allowed to promote the pricing options for subscriptions, in-app purchases, and premium apps, among other efforts. This is part of a planned settlement with developers that the court must yet authorise.

This adjustment is also in reaction to a lawsuit filed by minor software developers. The move is considered the most significant adjustment made by Apple in response to complaints that it employs monopolistic practices on the App Store.

According to Apple, while developers will be permitted to disclose payment information outside of the App Store, "users must consent to the communication and have the ability to opt-out," according to a statement. The company has increased the number of price options available to developers for all types of subscriptions, in-app purchases, and premium applications from less than 100 to over 500.

Aside from that, Apple has announced the creation of a new fund to assist qualified US developers, as well as the publication of a transparency report on the App Store, which will include statistics about the app review process, such as the number of apps rejected for various reasons and the number of apps removed from the App Store.

It's also worth noting that while Apple claims developers will be allowed to promote additional payment choices, it doesn't indicate these options would be available from within the app itself. Throughout this, Apple will continue to take its revenue share, with firms earning less than $1 million need to pay a lower commission.
